Diary of a Wimpy Kid Big Shot is the 16th book in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series. In this book, Greg writes about his life’s sports experience, starting from preschool to now. This book review will summarize the book and go over some select parts of the book that stand out to me.

Right out of the beginning, Greg Heffley talks about his experience playing sports in preschool, and how he really enjoyed it. But he quit in kindergarten because the referees were stricter with the rules, and he didn’t like it. Then, he talks about his opinion on the Olympics, and how it can be better according to him. Then Greg talks about how life would be better for him if he was an Olympian. Greg then writes about his school’s field day, and how he got prepared for it. He goes with his dad to the gym, but they get kicked out. Greg also goes shopping with his mom to get some food, and he realizes how some food products trick you. His field day experience stunk but his mom convinces Greg to try out for a basketball team. In the rest of the book, Greg talks about his basketball experience, which I very much enjoyed.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the ending of the book, where Greg makes the winning shot for the opposite team. Preet, the star player on Greg’s basketball team, had twisted his ankle some time before. In this game, Preet was playing, but with some sort of boot. During the basketball game, Preet accidentally stepped on one of the opponent's feet, and it broke. The opposing team was down to four players, so Greg had to join the other team. Near the end of the game, Greg got a ball. His former teammates were swarming him, and Greg, according to him, just wanted to get rid of the ball. So, he chucked it backwards, and he scored a winning shot. I thought this scene was ironic because Greg’s coach sent him to the enemy team because he sucked, but he ended up winning the game for the opposing team.

Another one of my favorite parts is where Greg describes the rivalry between his town and another town, called Slacksville. An incident happened where the state wanted to put a state dump in Greg’s town, but his town changed some laws so that the dump was put in Slacksville. Greg’s team had to play a basketball game at Slacksville, but they lost. “We might not ever beat those guys in sports, but at least our town doesn’t SMELL.” This is my favorite sentence in the book. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and would recommend you to read it.
