Rise of the Ranger is an e-book that I found on the Kindle Unlimited store. This fantasy book was decently popular, with over two thousand reviews on its Kindle page. Lots of books on Kindle Unlimited are self-published, of average quality and little editing. But this book defied my expectations, and I’m glad I read this book. I wish all books published on Kindle Unlimited were at this quality.

In Rise of the Ranger, the story follows Asher, a ranger that was an assassin, but left that life. We are quickly introduced to many characters, and each one has their own unique personality and background. The story doesn’t focus on Asher’s point of view, instead it has many different perspectives from different characters. I like this unique style, because we can learn about events happening elsewhere, not just with the main character. All of this contributes to the plot of the story, where a great war is brewing across the land. We can see the pieces moving from different sides and how they react to the enemy's plans. There were many characters in this book, and each one is essential to the story. From Nathaniel Galfrey, the son of a famous Greycoat, to Adilandra, an elven queen trying to find dragons, each one shows a different part of the story. I can’t wait to find out how the author brings it all together, and how the story will advance.

I enjoyed many elements of this book, from the character progression, how they interacted with each other, their own distinct actions. I also loved how the author planned out the plot, wrote the lore of the world, and all the locations. It was complex, with the lore fit into the story, and not just as a background. We can see how all the races affect each other, from the legendary elves, the barbarian Darkakin, and the traditional human. I was fully absorbed into the book, from beginning to end. When I finished this book, I immediately went to try and find the next book in the series. I can’t wait to finish the entire series, but I also don’t want it to end. While I am hyped up to see the conclusion, the writing is just fantastic, and I don’t want the book to end.

I have read some reviews on how readers liken this series to Tolkien, but this story is a lot different from Lord of the Rings. All the basic elements are there, but everything is so different. From the history, the legends, and even the characters, this book is so unlike Lord of the Rings. Yet, at the same time, the plot is beautifully written, the characters likable, the entire book is epic. If you like to read fantasy, you should definitely read this book. And since there are nine books in this series, with two prequels, you will be enthralled in the pages of the series for a long time.
