A word of warning: There will be spoilers ahead.
I very much enjoyed reading this new installment of the Wings of Fire series. Since we never had a book from the perspective of a queen (Glory does not count), this book was very intriguing to me. The author, Tui T. Sutherland, revealed an important Ice Wing secret: The Forbidden Treasury. I’m not sure many readers noticed, but before this book, we’ve only seen a few of the animus gifts, like the gift of order (The Ice Wing circle ranks), The gift of defense (The Ice Cliff), and the gift of light (the globes from the tree). Since Winter said there were many animus gifts before Prince Arctic, I’ve always wondered where the other gifts were, and what they did. In this book, it finally showed the answer to that question. On a side note, this book was manly about animuses, even though the main character was not an animus.
I thought the gift of vision was interesting. The animus gift was nothing we ever seen before. It transported Snowfall, while she was sleeping, to other dragons’ mind. It even gave Snowfall their feelings and identity in her dreams. It changed Snowfall’s perspective of other dragons, and eventually lead to Snowfall trusting other dragons, plus breaking the Ice Cliff and the gift of order with the Tiara of strength. Speaking of that, the scenes of the destruction was hilarious. Snowfall was like, “Want to see how strong I am?” and then punched the Ice Cliff.
The final event I’m going to discuss it the appearance of the characters from Dragonslayer! It was exciting to see dragons discover that scavengers can speak dragon, and Sky trying to interact with other dragons. I loved Winter’s reaction when he meets Wren. I’ll quote Winter, “Every dragon on the quest would protect you with his or her life! I would gladly sacrifice myself to keep you safe!” I think that part of the book where the Dragons meet the scavengers who could say human was my favorite part.
Now that you know what I thought, what do you guys think of the book? If you read this, please comment down below what you thought of the book! (That sounds cheesy.) If you haven’t, you should read Dragonslayer, because it explains the scavenger part, and how Wren learned to speak Dragon. Thanks for reading! Andone last thing: Now we know that it was Jerboa that broke animus magic! That sneaky SandWing!
